Day 9 – Neuschwanstein and Salzburg
Today we went to the famous Neuschwanstein Castle…if you’ve never heard of it, you HAVE seen it a million times – it was the inspiration for Cinderella’s castle at Disney World. There is a beautiful view of the castle from a scary suspension bridge. Tons of people will be angling for the same photo as you, but I love the ones I took, so it was worth it to take the few minutes to stop.
The tour of the castle itself is not as impressive as Burg Eltz was, as this is actually a fairly new castle (built from 1869-1886) and work stopped when King Ludwig died – so only a third of the interiors are actually finished.
After walking back down the hill to meet up with our bus, we drove a few miles down the road to stop for a picnic lunch in front of a country church – another lunch with a gorgeous view. And then enjoyed a couple of rides on a nearby alpine slide.
We arrived in Salzburg just before dinner, where we checked into our small, but well-located hotel, Hotel Trumer Stube. Tonight was a group dinner in the Old Town – mmmm, wiener schnitzel!

Day 10 – Salzburg
We started the day with a full walking tour of Salzburg in the rain with Brigitte. She started us in the New Town before taking us across the bridge to the Old Town.
The afternoon provided a good opportunity to do souvenir shopping and exploring other parts of Salzburg. Since it was still rainy and cold, however, I didn’t do too much exploring.
Several of us opted to do a Mozart Dinner Concert that night at The Baroque Hall St. Peter (the hotel will help book this for you). A troupe performed several of Mozart’s most well-known arias and duets between each course of food. The music, the food, and the space were all wonderful.
