Mauthausen Concentration Camp

Mauthausen was the most difficult part of the tour, but I would not have left it off the itinerary.  It is important in this day and age to be reminded of the horrors of history, so that we do not ever repeat them.  You will not leave a visit to a concentration camp unchanged.   I approached my photo-taking that day as I imagine a journalist would.  I took photos of things that seem too awful to know they exist, but I felt that we MUST remember that they exist and were used to exterminate thousands of people – and that this scene was repeated in thousands of other camps.
